My name is Paul Steger, and I am the Founder of A-LineGolf where our goal is to help you “Practice Smarter”.

When I retired from a corporate IT job in 2021, I decided to apply my passion for golf by serving as a volunteer coach with the First Tee Minnesota. It has been a rewarding experience but challenging as well.  Every season, I see kids struggle with putter and clubface alignment. Sound familiar?

Coaches talk about keeping the putter face square to the target, keeping their shoulders aligned, getting their eyes over the ball, using their shoulders and not their wrists to control speed and distance… It can be hard for kids aged 8-12 to visualize what we are trying to teach them. We’ve used Tee Pegs to create channels, and we have even tried laying alignment sticks down, only to have them get hit and roll away. It’s frustrating for the kids and it’s frustrating for the coaches.

Being a 3D Printing enthusiast, I pondered the possibility of designing and printing a device that would help the kids visualize the things we want them to learn on the putting green. Thus, the “A-LineGolf Gate” was invented. It’s a simple device which can be used in conjunction with alignment sticks to create a putting channel that provides a tremendous amount of visual feedback. Think of it like bumpers in bowling. By placing the alignment sticks along the base of the gate, you create a putting channel. Then add the third stick to create a visual Top Line above the center of the hole!

The project grew from there. As we began exploring uses, we added other configurations to aid with full shot alignment. Again, the Kids struggledon the driving range to align their clubface and body toward their down-range targets. They could articulate what they were aiming for, but they could not set up consistently for success. Using the A-LineGolf Gate in the “T” configuration and creating the “Railroad Tracks” visual on the range helps them tremendously!

As several local coaches and other golf buddies saw the A-LineGolf Gate, everyone encouraged me to offer them to the golfing public. As I thought about it, I became convinced that golfers of all abilities could benefit as much or more than the kids at the First Tee Minnesota.
